The Squale 1521 Marina Militare is a limited edition of 500 pieces, designed to be a celebratory, historical, and high-performance watch. The choice of the 1521 collection is symbolic, as the first model supplied to the Navy was indeed a 1521.
This legacy is continued with the creation of this functional and evocative timepiece.
Of the first 1521 models supplied by Squale to the Navy in the 1980s, very few examples currently exist, one of which is housed in the G.O.S. museum in La Spezia.
The reason for this rarity is that, as the watches supplied to the divers were military-grade instruments, they were returned by the military and destroyed as per protocol.
The current Squale 1521 Marina Militare was designed to be the most elegant of the 1521 models, enhancing its qualities as a celebratory watch.
The 316L steel case has a brushed finish with polished bevels, while the black dial features a brossé finish, creating unique plays of light thanks to the polished steel applied hour markers.
The orange color is the dominant element, an important symbol for both the Navy and Squale. The official Navy logo is orange, as are the iconic minute hands on Squale diver’s watches, especially the 1521. At 6 o’clock is the Navy logo in orange, as is the minute hand on the dial around the flange.
The iconic minute hand, in this extraordinary limited edition, is edged in white with orange SuperLuminova inside, perfectly matching the bezel where the first quarter features the same shade of SuperLuminova.
The design of this diver’s watch pays tribute to Squale’s long tradition and its partnership with the Italian Navy. The case back bears the Italian Navy logo and the sequential number of this limited edition of 500 timepieces.
These details give the watch a historical and symbolic value, making it a unique and significant piece.
